With the ongoing expansion in the Information Technology globe, a solid need was felt to produce and develop human resource that will cater to the needs of the society in general and industry in particular. The Department of Computer Application offers programs of study related to computing, information technology and software design and application. The Department currently offers a 4 Year Degree in Computer Applications (CA)- an eight semester undergraduate course in Computer Applications to students. The department also runs some add-on cources in collabration with other other state and national level institutions like University of Kashmir, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology etc. The department was established in 2002 in this college. As a discipline, Computer Application is about far more than just computers: it is the systematic study of processes for solving problems. At Department of Computer Application, our programmes focus on understanding how to think about these processes, how to program computers to carry out important tasks efficiently, and how to apply the ideas and research about computer science to just about everything.

The department offers admission in computer applications at the under graduate level.  The students after graduation in the subject can get admission in MCA and other P.G. Courses in the subject. Further they can also perform research in the subject. The computer applications have great importance. Computers have revolutionized all walks of life, in fact there is no area which has remained untouched by computers. It has revolutionized communication system. E-Mail, Online Chatting, Video Conferencing etc. are applications of computer. It has automated manufacturing and service sectors. In fact all the industries control machineries used for manufacturing through computers. We can reserve rail and air tickets with the help of computers. Computers are used in printing, entertainment, weather forecasting, banking, finance, trade, defense, space research etc. In fact it has application in every home and office.

Computer Application is a job oriented course. Department offers 80 (Eighty) seats. Many batches of BCA and Computer Applications students have passed out since 2002 from the department. The passed out students are working in various government departments and private sector. In private sector students are working in development and services like banking, insurance, BPO, marketing and sales. Students graduating in the subject easily get jobs in and outside the state. Many of our students are working in multinational companies at managerial level.
