The college library, liaison between users and information sources offers myriad knowledge choices (Print/Digital) to its users. Being one of the oldest academic library of the Kashmir division, it had its beginning when the College was established in early 1950s with more than 4000 current users (including Faculty, students and staff), it has 71418 books including rare and reference books, entirely RFID tagged in its collection.
Collection: This Collection is housed in two Text Sections and one Reference Section. Text sections are major sections of the library covering all subject areas of Science and Humanities. Reference Section includes rare books and manuscripts, encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories and high-priced foreign editions with varied scope and coverage. A separate corner for the best sellers is upheld in the reference section of the library. The engrossing archive of rare books covers subject areas like mysticism and religion, history and philosophy, Islamic literature and fiqh, poetry and literature and other subjects.
The collection is completely RFID tagged, facilitating the easy circulation and dissemination of information to the patrons. The collection is organized in a subject-wise arrangement as per Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) scheme for easy retrieval and dissemination of information. The users have access to traditional as well as conventional information sources covering all knowledge areas: sciences, arts and humanities, mathematics, commerce, religion, philosophy, psychology, languages, computer applications, music, history and so on. Adapting to new technological developments, library redefined its services and procedures by the installation of RFID Technology including Library Staff Station, Library Security Gate, Library Self Check in/Check out Kiosk Station, RFID Tags and Institutional Labels, Smart Cards, Access Control Gate, Book Drop Kiosk and RFID Handheld Reader.
In this day and age with the surge in the information sources and channels, library is actively maintaining a user–centric approach with the inclusion of the latest services and facilities, to provide right information to the right user and at the right time.
Browsing Centre: Browsing Centre is fully air conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled, established on second floor of the library, thirty (30) All-in-one Desktop installed with high speed internet connectivity. An overhead projector is also available in the Browsing Centre. Library provides access to e-resources like ONOS (One Nation One Subscription) by INFLIBNET, NDLI, DOAB, DOAJ, LIBGUIDES and other such online resources to offer access to primary and nascent information to its users.
CCTV Surveillance: High end IP based CCTV Surveillance are installed across all the sections of the library for enhancing security to library material and controls the theft, unethical losses.
