We welcome you to the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. Degree College Anantnag. We at the department believe in bridging the gap between science and the masses by generating a technically sound and passionate human resource.Although all the basic infrastructural facilities needed for conducting teaching and research in different areas of Biotechnology have been developed in the department, efforts are being made to bring the department under the ambit of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, so that better facilities are ensured to our present and prospective students. Besides guiding students to excel in their academics, the Department strives hard toinstill a sense of curiosity in budding scientists and encourages them to participate in activities aimed at nourishing their inherent talent. Regular conferences, extension lectures and training workshops are arranged at the department to give our students the necessary exposure to compete at the national level. At the same time, fruitful partnerships with various pharma and biotech industries are also being pursued to provide our students with an alternate career option. Timely counselling and hands on assistance is also provided to the students. Our alumni have made the department proud by qualifying various competitive exams and securing admissions in top notch universities of the country. It is my firm belief that in due course of time and with proper funding and direction, the department will rise to its true potential and establishes itself as a leading center for imparting degree level education and training in biotechnology, in the state. We endeavor to develop Biotechnology Department into a nationally recognized center of research and education. The best is yet to come.

| Importance | Biotechnology is the third wave in biological sciences and represents such an interface of basic and applied sciences, where gradual and subtle transformation of science into technology can be witnessed. It compromises a number of technologies based upon increasing understanding of biology at the cellular and molecular level. Being multidisciplinary in nature, Biotechnology finds application in varied fields from medicine to agriculture and from environment to industry. Thus there is an increasing quest for researchers to meet the global demands. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. Degree College Anantnag was established to offer U.G. courses in Biotechnology.The subjects that are taught in the department of Biotechnology include cell biology, industrial microbiology, molecular biology, biophysical and biochemical techniques, enzymology, plant biotechnology, genetic engineering, immunology and animal biotechnology. |
| Infrastructural Facilities | Since its inception, the Department of Biotechnology has expanded in terms of
infrastructureand has witnessed a consistent rise in the students demand for the subject.The department is housed in a two-storied
building consisting of class rooms, staff room and well equipped student laboratories. |
