Kashmiri Department has been established in (1984). Earlier, Kashmiri was not taught as a subject in this collage but a lot of work was done in this collage for the promotion and the propagation of Kashmiri language and literature, Because Kashmiri is the mother tongue of the valley, so many professors and the students of the collage were emotionally attached to this language, that is why there is a special portion of Kashmiri in the famous collage magazine “Verinag”. Since it is inception most of the students used to write prose and poems for Kashmiri Section.
The department has remained focus of activities with regard to the development of Kashmiri language. The teaching program of the department is designed to provide students, the knowledge of Kashmiri language and literature. The course contents of the department is, script writing, Kashmiri journalism, translation of literature, creative writing and comparative study of Kashmiri with other languages especially for Urdu and English. The courses and the syllabus are constantly being updated by taking into consideration the contemporary needs of the society. Our students after completion of the course the students are eligible for different professions viz Teaching, Journalism and Translator etc.
