History as a discipline is considerably important as it not only makes people wise but at the same time enables one to know who he/she is. Its importance over the years has increased enormously as in most of the state or central competitive exams its weightage in terms of marks or overweight’s other subjects. The subject has grown in scope over the years. It has been a potential scoring subject in almost all the competitive exams. It has been the favorite scoring subject in civil service examination. The subject has diversified over the years as many courses related to History are offered by many universities like Archeology, Museum, Economic history, Art History etc.

The department has rich library which contains many rare manuscripts. The department at times utilizes Audio-Visual rooms for delivering lectures on themes which are related to Art and Architecture and on other themes which need concretization.

The department has over the years produced number of bureaucrats, politicians, professors, teachers, officials, scholars, social activists and intellectuals.
